Win for local GP partnership in national Friends and Family Test Awards

Award winning Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership is continuing its winning streak by claiming the title of ‘best friends and family initiative in primary care’ at the national Friends and Family Test Awards 2016, held in Leeds.

Celebrating the positive changes to healthcare that are produced because of patient feedback, the Friends and Family Test Awards recognise the services and people in the NHS who are making a real difference to peoples’ lives.

Having picked up an award in November 2015 for its work with the Lindsay Leg Club, Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership secured its place as award winner at yesterday’s Friends and Family Test awards by demonstrating how it uses feedback to improve patient experience.

A dedicated Friends and Family team working across Bradford on Avon Health Centre, St Margaret’s Surgery, Winsley Health Centre and St Damian’s Surgery, regularly review patient feedback and implement new initiatives, like, increasing the number of reception staff taking calls during busy periods as a direct result of listening and responding to patient feedback.

Michelle Coleman, General Manager for Bradford on Avon and Melksham Partnership said:
“We are absolutely delighted to win this award. We believe in putting our patients at the heart of everything we do.

“We are committed to not only listening but responding to the needs of our patients. We have a variety of ways people can contact us, from online surveys and feedback boxes in surgery to our Patient Participation Groups.

“We are really pleased to have been recognised for our proactive approach to patient involvement and our dedicated Friends and Family team will continue to make positive changes to improve the experience of our 21,300 patients.

The NHS uses the Friends and Family Test, which is a set of questions that asks people if they would recommend a particular service, to measure patient satisfaction and the quality of the services it provides. It’s used as a standard feedback tool right across the NHS, from hospitals and GP surgeries to dental services and patient transport.

The Bradford on Avon and Melksham Health Partnership recently won the Clinical Team of the Year award (dermatology) for its work setting up the Bradford on Avon Leg Club at the coveted General Practice Awards. The Partnership was also shortlisted for a number of other awards, including the Nursing Times Awards for integrated approaches to care.

This week is the NHS spotlight on Friends and Family Test and we are encouraging as many people as possible to have their say on the health services they use. For more information click here. For more information about the Friends and Family Test Awards please click here.
